Walgreens - How to use Register Rewards

If you want to get the best deals at Walgreens you need to understand register rewards so you can plan out the best deals.

PYP has a great article on this at this link. It's on Facebook, so you may have to have a Facebook account to read it. I am not sure.

Catalina Coupons

So when I first started using coupons the word "catalina" seemed strange and too hard to comprehend. After a while I got a better understanding of these and have even used a few BUT they are still a scary topic for me sometimes.

However there is help! Look at this link from "Mama Cheaps!" She talks about different stores than we have in our area but the concept is the same.

More Coupon Deals - Last week

This last week I got some good deals on this stuff. I think it all came to the total of $12.00. I've had some better deals on plates before but we have used all of the stock I had in storage.

4 Campbells soup , soup on the go - $0.50 ea
4 Chinet lunch plates - $0.50 ea
5 Bic, Soleil triple blade razors (4 per pack) - $1.00 ea (my favorite deal this week!)
5 Glade, Soy based candles - FREE
1 Magic Eraser 2 pack - $0.98 ea
4 Chex original - $0.50 ea (they also had peelies on them for later use!)

I mixed all the Chex bags with a non-name brand trail mix that had chocolate, raisins, etc. in it. Then I put them in Ziploc bags for my husbands lunches. He loves it and it was way cheaper than buying and expensive huge trail mix.

Watch out Albertsons!

This week I decided to shop at Broulims because they had some good deals in the paper. I walk in to the store and BAM I am in COUPON HEAVEN! Yes you heard right! Coupon Heaven at Broulims in Rexburg!

They had coupons taped to every product that had a coupon available! I talked to a guy there who looked like he had some pull and he told me it's a new program. He said they are working with a coupon lady from Shelly.

Well I didn't have time to really shop so I just grabs the main deals I came for - Huggies diapers. I do admit I grabed a couple snickers for our family movie night since they were 2 for a $1.

I have heard a few Alberstons stories have done this - Mainly the one in Idaho Falls on Broadway BUT the one is Rexburg doesn't do this so I hope they have a plan to do so soon, or Broulims might give them a run for their money - we will see.

Anyway keep your eye on Broulims these days you might be surprised!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OH - P.S. - if you have any GE coupons for energy saver light bulbs you will be happy to know they have some on sale for $1 each. SO if your coupons is for that amount you could get them for FREE! I saw them in the area around the check-outs. GOOD LUCK!

A new discovery! Type in "clearance"

Today I was looking for a DVD lens cleaner and found one on clearance at Kmart for $1.00 I couldn't believe my eyes! That is a great deal! Unfortunately it was such a great deal they are out of stock!

This experience started me thinking..... how many GREAT deals am I missing? I mean if I just would have looked a little earlier I may have been able to catch that deal. Then I started thinking how do I make sure I don't miss those deals for things that I need but don't always look for until I am desperate for one. So I thought to myself I wonder if I just typed in "clearance" to some of my favorite websites like Amazon, Kmart, Walmart, etc. I might catch some of those deals. So I tried it and I did see some great deals!

Soooooooooo the piont of this post????!!! Well, it's to get YOU to type "clearance" into yoru favorite website's search fields. Good luck and feel free to share the deals you find!

p.s. Why didn't I think of this a long time ago? live nad learn.

Coupon Shopping

So I have not been doing coupons lately because I am pregnant and sick, not to mention busy and behind at work. I will be starting up again in 2 weeks and trust me I will be going strong. I did however go to Wal-Mart yesterday and got a great deal on 18 gallon storage totes. I want to pack away things we don't have room for right now, as well as winter clothes, etc. The totes were $3.50 each which is pretty good. They also come in lots of bright colors so you could color code your storage if you wanted to.

-------------------------

While I am talking about good deals may I just vent about people who spend money they do not have. What some people do not understand is that if you do not have money...it is NOT a good deal. Why you might ask, well because you do not have money, a negative balance is not a good deal. You will either end up with charges for over drafting or you will end up with charges for charging on a credit card. Thus your "good deal" ends up costing you WAY more than if you just would have CONTROLLED your spending and saved up for when the item went on sale again. They almost always do go on sale again. Hey it may not be the exact couch, bed, TV, car you wanted the first time but I have found I usually find something better if I just wait. PLEASE CONTROL YOURSELVES PEOPLE!

Okay, now that I have vented I am happy : ) Venting makes me happy!

How to get started with coupons

So I am going to call these series of posts - Coupons for Dummies - maybe they already have a book in the "for dummies" series about coupons but this is my personal "Coupon Blog Entry for Dummies." I will try to post some coupon shopping tips every other day.

So today I will give you a few steps to do before you start collecting coupons. There a a few step I did take and a few steps I wish I would have taken first to make the whole process a lot easier. I will only post 5 today so I do not overwhelm people too much.

1. Check-out what news papers are delivered to your area and what coupons they have. For example you want the one that gets - Smart Source, Red Plum, and Procter and Gamble coupons. You should be able to ask the paper and they should know. My paper only has smart source which is still great but I wish I had the others too, so if you find a paper in your area that does this GREAT!

2. When you call the papers make sure to get prices on the papers too. You will want to ask for a coupon special - for example I get one paper on the normal delivery days (which is great so i get the ads, and random other coupons), and then I get five of the Sunday/Saturday paper (they are combined into the same day here). You want to get the most of whatever day has the coupon inserts. I would also recommend getting 6 on that day then you have doubles of each.

3. Start looking at the websites I have posted on my blogs side bar. Pinching Your Pennies (PYP) has great videos to help get you started. This will also make you familiar with coupon language (look on PYP for more info on that too). When you do this you may notice there are several on-line coupons too, in fact if you want you could just start with those if you don't want to invest more money yet. I have also found that there are local people who blog about it letting you know about local deals and just certain websites and blogs that are better for your area, depending on how many stores are around you.

4. Start pricing items you buy regularly. This is called a price list. I believe you can print one off of PYP and other sights to help you know when you are getting a good deal. The point of starting your own though is that you may use certain items a lot that are not on these lists, and when you follow the prices you will start to learn what stores offer a cheaper price and which ones have that item on sale more. This will help a lot when you use coupons. It's not hard either just make a list of items you buy often, like at least once a month, and when you go to the store take a small notebook and write down the price, brand, quantity, store, and date. It may make your trips a tad longer but if you are already purchasing it and in the store it's just a few more moments.

5. start putting together a "coupon binder" you can find out what this is by going to YOU TUBE and typing in coupon binder in the search bar. I would suggest putting this together before you end up with a billion coupons or it takes a lot more time - trust me on this. I would also suggest doing this because it makes coupon shopping WAY easier.

Remember in all you will probably put about $30 dollars into this your first month. After that it basically is only the price of the newspaper you get and the printing of the on-line coupons.

To justify spending that much my first month I went crazy and got as many free things as possible that month to offset the price of getting started (I only bought other items if they were a very good price like Ranch dressing for $0.08, or I really needed them like toilet paper). It also helped my gain confidence in coupon shopping.

I know this is a lot of info, if you have questions just post.
