Mommy N' Me
We will soon be moving to another city so I wanted to feature a few stores I will miss when we leave Rexburg.
Today I would like to feature
Mommy N' Me
Here are the things I love about them:
- They have great customer service
- They are a family run business
- They sell gently used items as well as new items
- They do trade-ins on used items thus you can trade in your old baby or pregnancy clothes and get some others.
- They can order new items cheaper than you can find on-line (at least that is what happened in my case).
- They have innovative and fun products.
- The owner is willing to work out deals and is super nice!
- Sometimes in the warmer months they have fun sales like everything you can stuff in a bag for $1. We got some great stuff from that.
I would recommend this store to anyone. They are doing construction right now in the store to try and expand it and such so things get moved around a lot BUT they are always willing to help you find whatever you need.
My favorite special of the month -
This month they have a special on the Phil and Ted stroller they carry. You can get the bassinet and extra seat included int eh normal price. That is a value of over $200. I am in love with that stroller so I am trying to save to get it before we leave.
Here is their contact info!

Movies for $1
I just read my e-mail from Dollar Tree (it's a dollar store) and saw that they have major motion movies for sale at their stores. Granted these will be old ones. Still you may find some great ones for the family! It's probably worth stopping by the store to take a look.
Hurry though before all the good ones are gone!

This coupons expires 11/17/09 so if you have this movie on your Christmas list you better go get it today! I think that Wal-mart is the best place to get it for the best price but you could look around and see what other deals you find.
If you haven't seen this is is a good movie. It's very colorful and entertaining for adults as well as older children (over 3 or 4 maybe). It has a good message.

Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure
Disney has a coupon for $10 off this Tinkerbell DVD/Blu-ray combo set. Go tho this link to find the coupon. I have see this movie and think it's cute and teaches lots of morals especially to girls.
I would try using it at Wal-mart, K-mart OR Toys R'Us. You might be able to call the store ahead of time or look on line to see what prices they offer on this product. I got my snow white one at Albertsons last time because they offered other free product when you bought the movie plus I could use the coupon so it worked out fine. So look around. Mine says it expires on Oct. 31, 2009.

Walgreens - How to use Register Rewards
If you want to get the best deals at Walgreens you need to understand register rewards so you can plan out the best deals.
PYP has a great article on this at this link. It's on Facebook, so you may have to have a Facebook account to read it. I am not sure.

Did you know....
You can get a box of bananas at Broulims for $7.00!
They are the ones that are starting to ripen fast.
They are the ones that are starting to ripen fast.
They keep them under the normal bananas in the store in boxes. It's better to get them during the day so that the produce people can help you. Sometimes if those people are gone some other workers don't know if they can sell them to you or not.
The picture shown above has already been emptied of some of the bananas I peeled and cut so far. The box was completely full to the brim when I bought it.
This is not a one time deal it is just something they always do. So if you are a banana lover, this is great!
I have a food dehydrator so I bought them to make banana chips.
---------------------------------------------
Here are some other ideas of how to use this many bananas:
- Have a banana split party
- Make LOTS of banana bread
- Have a fondue party
- Use them for weddings, family reunions, etc.
- Make lots of banana malts
- Mix with other fruits to make smoothies
- Mix with other fruits to make fruit leather
If you have more ideas please comment!

Broulims Deals This Week!
This is the coupon strip found on the Broulims store ad.
These are NOT manufactures coupons. So they can be stacked with a manufacture coupon for even better deals.
These are NOT manufactures coupons. So they can be stacked with a manufacture coupon for even better deals.
You have two days to get the Broulims deals this week! Some of the best deals are the ones on the coupon strip that is stuck to their ad (see above picture).
What you want to do is look at those coupon deals then see if you have (or can find) any other manufacturer coupons to stack on top of these. If you have good ones you can get the products really cheap or free.
I am going to try and get the Kraft Ranch Dressing for FREE by using an on-line manufacturers coupon I printed a couple weeks ago, and then stacking it with the stores in-ad coupon.
Here is another example I found for the Kraft cheese coupon......
Here is a cheese coupon you can stack with one in the ad. The sale is Kraft Natural Shredded Cheese 8 oz .99 cents each when you buy 2 (with $1/2 in-ad coupon), so use the printable coupon $1 off 2 and get two bags for $.99 OR $.50 each. That ends up being $1 a pound (16oz).
Go to this blog to look for more deals you may be able to stack coupons on.

Catalina Coupons
So when I first started using coupons the word "catalina" seemed strange and too hard to comprehend. After a while I got a better understanding of these and have even used a few BUT they are still a scary topic for me sometimes.
However there is help! Look at this link from "Mama Cheaps!" She talks about different stores than we have in our area but the concept is the same.

REALLY CHEAP Campbell's Soup!
Broulims has Campbell's soup for sale this week in their case lot sale.
Tomato and Chicken Noodle end up being $.50 a can if you buy a case of 24. They have coupons you can get from the registrar for $.40 off 4 cans. That makes the soup $.40 a can.
They also have their cooking soups like Cream of Chicken on sale by the case. I believe it ends up being $.57 a can for a case of 24. Then you can go here to print a coupon for $1.00 two cans of ANY Campbell's cooking soup. That ends up being $.07 a can! I have heard if you print the coupons every other day they will keep letting you print them. You will have to check on this yourself. You could even see if this coupon will work on tomato soup. I have heard some people have used it that way, you just never know sometimes.
I have not yet tried this but it should work! I will be going by later this week to get my soup and will let you know how it goes!
Go to this blog to find more about Broulims case lot sale and other deals this week.

Really great Deal on CHEESE and more at Albertsons!
I got 6 pounds of Tillamook Cheese for $7.49. Let me tell you how:
1. I printed the on-line coupons for a 1.00 off ANY 2 pounds of cheese made in America.
Click here to print the coupon. I printed three from different computers.
2. I then took the "twice Value" coupons from the Albertsons ad. That gave me a total of $2 off every 2 pounds.
3. I then used a store coupon I received the week before for $5 off any purchase at Albertsons. I realize of course not all of you will have this last coupons BUT you can use the top two and still get a great deal on cheese. Just make sure to check the package so you know it's made in the USA.
I got all of this for about $15.24 give or take a bit with tax (I have not had time to go through and separate all the tax out of the prices).
Cereal was about $.63 cents a box with tax. I went and got the deal buy 10 get $10 off select Kellogg's cereals (see Albertsons ad) then I use multiple coupons for every box, and doubled three of them. You can find some coupons in the cereal isle - save $1 on any 2 boxes of Kellogg's cereal. Your final price may vary from mine but will stay pretty close.
Bumble Bee Tuna was FREE with coupon from becoming a fan on facebook (look under the coupon tab after your become a fan and print it - save $1 on 2 cans). Then I doubled it with the Albersons "twice value" coupon.
Cheez-it's were $.50 a box without tax - use the best on-line coupon you can find and then double it wit the Albertsons twice value coupon.
Dial Soap (Pump and bars) were about $.30 each. You can look for ones on-line but I used one from may Sunday papers Smart Source Coupons and doubled them with the Albertsons coupon.
If you have questions feel free to post a questions - However realize that this sale ends on Tue.

Double your coupons AGAIN this week!!!!!!!!!!!!
This week Albertsons gave us twice the value coupons again! This means you can double any coupon you have by a maximum of a dollar. Making your saving up to two dollars a product.
When you use these remember you have to have the in-ad coupon that says "twice value coupon." There should be 3 per ad. If you are in Rexburg you can get more ads from the BYU-I school paper "Scroll" or from the FREE Standard Journal Extra that is put out in different spaces all over town on Tuesdays.
Okay so now you have the coupons that double your coupons. As long as your coupon is $1 or under you can use it and double it by using the in-ad doubler coupons. You can only use 3 per transaction and only do 3 transactions in a row. After that if people are in line after you, you will have to go to the end of the line again. If you have questions you can ask me OR ask the employees at Albertsons. They are very helpful almost all of the time.
Stay tuned tomorrow for the best deals I can find this week.

More Coupon Deals - Last week
This last week I got some good deals on this stuff. I think it all came to the total of $12.00. I've had some better deals on plates before but we have used all of the stock I had in storage.
4 Campbells soup , soup on the go - $0.50 ea
4 Chinet lunch plates - $0.50 ea
5 Bic, Soleil triple blade razors (4 per pack) - $1.00 ea (my favorite deal this week!)
5 Glade, Soy based candles - FREE
1 Magic Eraser 2 pack - $0.98 ea
4 Chex original - $0.50 ea (they also had peelies on them for later use!)
I mixed all the Chex bags with a non-name brand trail mix that had chocolate, raisins, etc. in it. Then I put them in Ziploc bags for my husbands lunches. He loves it and it was way cheaper than buying and expensive huge trail mix.

Watch out Albertsons!
This week I decided to shop at Broulims because they had some good deals in the paper. I walk in to the store and BAM I am in COUPON HEAVEN! Yes you heard right! Coupon Heaven at Broulims in Rexburg!
They had coupons taped to every product that had a coupon available! I talked to a guy there who looked like he had some pull and he told me it's a new program. He said they are working with a coupon lady from Shelly.
Well I didn't have time to really shop so I just grabs the main deals I came for - Huggies diapers. I do admit I grabed a couple snickers for our family movie night since they were 2 for a $1.
I have heard a few Alberstons stories have done this - Mainly the one in Idaho Falls on Broadway BUT the one is Rexburg doesn't do this so I hope they have a plan to do so soon, or Broulims might give them a run for their money - we will see.
Anyway keep your eye on Broulims these days you might be surprised!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OH - P.S. - if you have any GE coupons for energy saver light bulbs you will be happy to know they have some on sale for $1 each. SO if your coupons is for that amount you could get them for FREE! I saw them in the area around the check-outs. GOOD LUCK!

1,000 Envelopes for $1
If you are living in the Rexburg area you should go grab this deal while you can.
The Artco store has 1, 000 envelopes for a dollar! Yes you read right! They are very similar to the picture I posted above. They are business letter size, and I will be using them now A LOT!
I think our baby announcement and Christmas cards will have to fit this size now : )

A new discovery! Type in "clearance"
Today I was looking for a DVD lens cleaner and found one on clearance at Kmart for $1.00 I couldn't believe my eyes! That is a great deal! Unfortunately it was such a great deal they are out of stock!
This experience started me thinking..... how many GREAT deals am I missing? I mean if I just would have looked a little earlier I may have been able to catch that deal. Then I started thinking how do I make sure I don't miss those deals for things that I need but don't always look for until I am desperate for one. So I thought to myself I wonder if I just typed in "clearance" to some of my favorite websites like Amazon, Kmart, Walmart, etc. I might catch some of those deals. So I tried it and I did see some great deals!
Soooooooooo the piont of this post????!!! Well, it's to get YOU to type "clearance" into yoru favorite website's search fields. Good luck and feel free to share the deals you find!
p.s. Why didn't I think of this a long time ago? live nad learn.

Some books that make me happy!
This year I have had the chance to read or listen to many books. These are some of my favorites! I would put all of these in my family library for my children to read in the future. I have started getting some of these by using my on-line survey points and asking for them for gifts for my birthday, Christmas, etc. I also look at used book stores. This way i can build up our families little library with our favorites and not spend a lot of money.
Until I get all the ones I want though the public library is a GREAT FREE resource for checking out, books, CDs, DVDs, etc. I love it!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus them i can see what ones are worth spending my time and money on because I can read them first for free.

Coupon Shopping
So I have not been doing coupons lately because I am pregnant and sick, not to mention busy and behind at work. I will be starting up again in 2 weeks and trust me I will be going strong. I did however go to Wal-Mart yesterday and got a great deal on 18 gallon storage totes. I want to pack away things we don't have room for right now, as well as winter clothes, etc. The totes were $3.50 each which is pretty good. They also come in lots of bright colors so you could color code your storage if you wanted to.
-------------------------
While I am talking about good deals may I just vent about people who spend money they do not have. What some people do not understand is that if you do not have money...it is NOT a good deal. Why you might ask, well because you do not have money, a negative balance is not a good deal. You will either end up with charges for over drafting or you will end up with charges for charging on a credit card. Thus your "good deal" ends up costing you WAY more than if you just would have CONTROLLED your spending and saved up for when the item went on sale again. They almost always do go on sale again. Hey it may not be the exact couch, bed, TV, car you wanted the first time but I have found I usually find something better if I just wait. PLEASE CONTROL YOURSELVES PEOPLE!
Okay, now that I have vented I am happy : ) Venting makes me happy!

Ode to our Fathers
Good fathers (like mine) make me happy. Please see these beautiful videos my friend posted on facebook about fathers. They brought tears to my eyes, and loving appreciation for many good men.
"Let Us Be Men"
"A father Indeed"
Please always remember to tell the good men in your life that you love an appreciate them.

Rain, rain stay today...
So it's been raining non-stop in my neck of the wood, but I love it! It has kept our house cool, and the air clean smelling. It also makes everything grow really fast.
The down side is my little boy can't go play but I have been too tired to go play anyway so it's okay for now.
So the point of this blog entry: Rain makes me happy!

How to get started with coupons
So I am going to call these series of posts - Coupons for Dummies - maybe they already have a book in the "for dummies" series about coupons but this is my personal "Coupon Blog Entry for Dummies." I will try to post some coupon shopping tips every other day.
So today I will give you a few steps to do before you start collecting coupons. There a a few step I did take and a few steps I wish I would have taken first to make the whole process a lot easier. I will only post 5 today so I do not overwhelm people too much.
1. Check-out what news papers are delivered to your area and what coupons they have. For example you want the one that gets - Smart Source, Red Plum, and Procter and Gamble coupons. You should be able to ask the paper and they should know. My paper only has smart source which is still great but I wish I had the others too, so if you find a paper in your area that does this GREAT!
2. When you call the papers make sure to get prices on the papers too. You will want to ask for a coupon special - for example I get one paper on the normal delivery days (which is great so i get the ads, and random other coupons), and then I get five of the Sunday/Saturday paper (they are combined into the same day here). You want to get the most of whatever day has the coupon inserts. I would also recommend getting 6 on that day then you have doubles of each.
3. Start looking at the websites I have posted on my blogs side bar. Pinching Your Pennies (PYP) has great videos to help get you started. This will also make you familiar with coupon language (look on PYP for more info on that too). When you do this you may notice there are several on-line coupons too, in fact if you want you could just start with those if you don't want to invest more money yet. I have also found that there are local people who blog about it letting you know about local deals and just certain websites and blogs that are better for your area, depending on how many stores are around you.
4. Start pricing items you buy regularly. This is called a price list. I believe you can print one off of PYP and other sights to help you know when you are getting a good deal. The point of starting your own though is that you may use certain items a lot that are not on these lists, and when you follow the prices you will start to learn what stores offer a cheaper price and which ones have that item on sale more. This will help a lot when you use coupons. It's not hard either just make a list of items you buy often, like at least once a month, and when you go to the store take a small notebook and write down the price, brand, quantity, store, and date. It may make your trips a tad longer but if you are already purchasing it and in the store it's just a few more moments.
5. start putting together a "coupon binder" you can find out what this is by going to YOU TUBE and typing in coupon binder in the search bar. I would suggest putting this together before you end up with a billion coupons or it takes a lot more time - trust me on this. I would also suggest doing this because it makes coupon shopping WAY easier.
Remember in all you will probably put about $30 dollars into this your first month. After that it basically is only the price of the newspaper you get and the printing of the on-line coupons.
To justify spending that much my first month I went crazy and got as many free things as possible that month to offset the price of getting started (I only bought other items if they were a very good price like Ranch dressing for $0.08, or I really needed them like toilet paper). It also helped my gain confidence in coupon shopping.
I know this is a lot of info, if you have questions just post.

Planning a Birthday Party
Our son Henrik is having is One year birthday party on Saturday. Most of is friends are not children so several friends and relatives who are adults will be attending.
When planning a party I almost always start with a theme. Choosing a theme helps me plan anything thing from a formal Ball, reception down to a birthday party. Choosing a theme makes the planing a lot easier. The theme can be anything simple like just a color, a dessert, an item that will bring inspiration etc. For example when planning my wedding reception I chose the theme as chocolate. I'm sure people would have not guessed the theme even though we did have a lot of chocolate but it made it so much easier to plan.
For this party we have chosen guitars as the theme.
After choosing a theme it is now time to brain storm. For this particular theme I had a hard time thinking of things that are appropriate for a child's party that center around guitars...I then realized that most of the people attending would be adults so I started thinking a little differently. I also had my sister over so we starting coming up with silly ideas that then sparked other ideas. NO idea is dumb because it may spark something else or can be refined to fit your desires/needs. I also looked on-line to try and spark ideas.
here is a list of things we came up with:
1. everyone dress as a rock star
2. picture booth with a wig and guitar
3. guitar hero
4. pin the pick on the guitar
5. everyone wear band shirts
6. band shirts are the decoration
7. a game where you separte the into bands and they create thier own music.
8. guitar hero (obiously for teh adults since Henrik is only one)
9. Guitar cake
10. use Dad's guitar pic on invitations
........... and the list goes on.
We will use this list to expand on and refine our plans.
Stay tuned to see what happens!
